From Anita the Beekeeper to Kiran the Junkyard Dealer, every Girl Stars’ story is a magical & real tale of ordinary girls who have changed their lives by going to school.
Girl Stars was created by Going to School and supported by UNICEF in India. Sponsored by the Department of Women & Child Development, the Ministry of Education, Government of India, 15 Girl Stars movies have been aired on Doordarshan nationally and regionally in six languages – Girl Stars has been seen by 750 million people! Girl Stars has also been screened on National Geographic.
Stories of Anita the Beekeeper and Kiran the Junkyard Dealer have already been incorporated in NCERT textbooks and will reach over 10 million children in Government Primary Schools. Next, Girl Stars books will enter more Government Schools and Girl Stars radio is soon to go on air.
The Girl Stars are from five northern states in India where girls are most at risk from dropping out of school: Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand & Rajasthan.
